Matzah – the Journey Continues

Slide 1

Introduction:

Since we have been gaining much knowledge of the Passover through the last couple of Studies & because we are in the Feast of Matzah (Chag HaMatzot) “The Feast of Unleavened Bread” I hope to expand on what we know so we can fully appreciate the significance of this Feast and the further related events such as “Sefirat HaOmer” or the Counting of the Sheaves which leads to the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot (Pentecost). Along with this significant time in the Hebrew Calendar I wish to observe what was happening with the Talmidim (Disciples) during this time as well.

Understanding the Significance of the Ten Plagues:

Often people look at all the various plagues and just come to the conclusion that YHWH was simply demonstrating his power over the forces of nature to cause Pharaoh to release the Children of Yisrael based on the reading as follows:

Slide 2

Shemoth (Exodus) 5:1 And afterwards Mosheh and Aharon went in and said to Pharaoh, “Thus

said YHWH Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Let My people go, so that they keep a festival to Me in the wilderness.’ ”

If we take a deeper look we will find something interesting though this is only seen through an understanding of the religious worship that existed in Mitsrayim (Egypt). What we do discover however is that the Mitsrites (Egyptians) had many Elohim with each attributed with different features relating to Nature so the ten plagues were particularly attributed by YHWH to totally discredit these false Elohim and to demonstrate that he YHWH alone is above all and has all power.

Slide 3

Therefore each Plague has a divine purpose to oppose a particular god or Gods as shown on the next slide:

Slide 4

The 10 Plagues- Yahweh verses the Elohim of Mitsrayim (Egypt)

We also discern from Scripture how YHWH clearly discriminated between the Mitsrites (Egyptians) and the Hebrews which can be seen throughout the first nine plagues until we reach the last plague, the plague of the death of the 1st born. Passover therefore remembers that the protection from this plague was only received by the blood of an unblemished lamb that was smeared on the lintels of the homes of those who were obedient.

This thereby teaches that the passing over of judgement for each of us is not dependent upon our righteousness but only by the humble acceptance that Yahshua’s blood atoned for each and every one of those who believe.

The Power of the Passover Lamb:

There was something uniquely powerful about the Passover Lamb. Firstly the blood on the Lintels of the door prevented the Angel of death from entering thus protecting all those within the house from facing the judgement that came upon all Mitsrayim (Egypt) but there was so much more.

We read in the following that the people left Mitsrayim (Egypt) with great blessing.

Slide 5

Tehillim (Psalm) 105:36-38 YHWH also smote all the firstborn in their land, the first of all their strength.

37 He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes.
38 Mitsrayim (Egypt) was glad when they departed, For the fear of them had fallen upon them.

The implication is that when the Yisraelites who were in Covenant with YHWH ate the Lamb the result was, that there were no sick or feeble among them and all the Yisraelites that left Mitsrayim (Egypt) were of such vigour that they suffered not at all from sickness or weakness even though they had been under such affliction.

The Passover Lamb representation is further expanded by the words of Yahshua in:

Slide 6

Yochanan (John) 6:53 Then Yahshua said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

The symbolism of the Lamb is so powerful. Just as the people of Yisrael were delivered from the Slavery of Mitsrayim (Egypt) and after eating of the Lamb were empowered with strength & health so too Yahshua who is the true Lamb says that unless the people eat his flesh & drink his blood they will have no life in them but he speaks here of not the life that Yisrael had because they did die but rather his life that would impart Everlasting life. This word sadly was too much for many of his Talmidim (Disciples) that they departed from him so Yahshua asks his twelve Talmidim if they also wished to leave but Kepha (Peter) puts it so well in:

Slide 7

Yochanan (John) 6:68

68 But Shimon Kepha (Simon Peter) answered Him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You possess the words of everlasting life. 69 Also we have believed and we know that You are the Machiach (the Messiah), the Son of the living Elohim.”

So often we hear that the deliverance from sin only requires the acceptance of the blood that was shed for us but what we find in the exodus story is quite different. We read an amazing statement of trust something that we often fail to see upon a casual reading:

Slide 8

Shemoth (Exodus) 12:39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Mitsrayim (Egypt), for it was not leavened, since they were driven out of Mitsrayim and had not been able to delay, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.

This verse tells us that they did not say “how will we go out into the Desert without provisions?” Instead they believed in supernatural provision & left. In the later years when Yisrael were not as faithful we see the contrast that YHWH is passionately remembering spoken through the Prophet:

Slide 9

YermeYahu (Jeremiah) 2:2 YHWH came to me saying “Go and you shall cry in the hearing of Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), saying, ‘Thus said YHWH, “I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your betrothal, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

The great truth revealed in this story is that when the Yisraelites were delivered they then began a Journey of Trust in their true Mighty One who would guide them to the place of his calling even to the land of promise but they would require faith & obedience. It is noted that YHWH their Elohim did not give them his Torah in Mitsrayim (Egypt) showing us that there must come a time of preparation and a Journey of faith through a wilderness to bring sanctification, before the people of YHWH could receive his Divine instructions they needed to develop the character of a free people through wilful obedience that would finally bring them to the Promised Land. Sadly a Journey of a few weeks took as much as 40 years before they once again came to the Boarder of the Promised land.

The Relevance of the Journey for us:

As we celebrate the Feast of Matsah (Unleavened Bread) it now becomes apparent that it is more than a remembrance of the Deliverance from Mitsrayim (Egypt) or even more than a remembrance of the sacrifice, shame & death of Yahshua the Lamb of Elohim that sets us free from the slavery of sin.

Rather it reminds us that after Deliverance, comes the Journey of faith & trust that leads us to the Torah of YHWH and hopefully to the Promised Land.

Slide 10

To further understand the concept of Leaven we need to know that Flour did not need to have Leaven added to it because it is known that Leaven is in the air so when water is added to flour it must be baked before the leavening point of 18 minutes.

How can we apply this principle to our life?

What it tells us is that Sin or Leaven is in the Atmosphere since we live in a World corrupted by sin. From the principle of Leaven we know that sin has a sin point as well, after which it becomes ingrained and begins to swell and permeate ones whole being.

If a thought or action is cut off before the sin point then the person remains unleavened thus fulfilling the Principle of purging the leaven.

So what is the problem with Leaven? It is a symbol of death & decay. The rising of the dough is only possible by means of the processes of decay & corruption. Therefore, were it not for the curse of death through the fall of Man there could be no leavened Bread. The sages identify leaven with the “Yetzer Hara” the evil inclination within.

When we purge the Leaven out of our homes we are practicing the process of removing corrupting influences from our lives. Basically it is an object lesson that we need to carry through to our spiritual lives as well.

An Example of the power of Leaven is revealed in the story of Melek (King) Shaul found in Shemuel Aleph (1Samuel 15) where Shaul (Saul) disobeys the command of Elohim and spares King Agag. This sin over time swelled so much through the hatred of Haman in the book of Esther that it almost resulted in the genocide of all the Yahudim (the Jews) in the Empire of Babylon.

The Significance of the Feast to the Talmidim (Disciples):

Firstly what is the connection to Yahshua? Unleavened bread is a picture of sanctification, purity and sinlessness. His life and sacrifice was unleavened in that he was untainted from the curse of sin therefore without spot or blemish “the ultimate Passover Sacrifice.”

The Talmidim (the Disciples) however could only see the death of Yahshua as the destruction of all hope which is further seen by their reaction to the women when they said they had seen the Master in:

Slide 11

Luke 24:11 And the women’s words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them.

Yahshua however did not suffer the natural process of corruption being the decomposition of the Body. His body did not return to dust the very curse given to Adam & Chavah (Eve)[Bereshith (Gen) 3:19] but as the 2nd Adam (Adam Hasheni) his death “killed the power of death” by putting away sin through his sacrifice.

What is even more powerful is that by his Rising, a new leaven, being the power of the Kingdom was being released not the leaven of death & decay but the Leaven of strength, power, health and Everlasting life through the RUACH Ha Qodesh (the Holy Spirit) that is available for all, that all the faithful can witness the new life that his rising would bring. We see Yahshua likening the Kingdom of Heaven to Leaven in:

Slide 12

MattithYahu (Matthew) 13:33 Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

Yahshua’s Resurrection therefore is the raising agent that leads to life and that abundantly.

The Journey to Sinai:

When we continue to observe the Journey the Yisraelites took from Mitsrayim (Egypt) to Sinai we find it filled with disobedience and grumbling resulting in punishment and also miracles because this is the Journey that all YHWH’s people must take, on the road to embracing Torah & receiving all his instructions to finally having his Torah or his word written on our hearts. Yisrael in their stubbornness so angered YHWH that he finally declared the following:

Slide 13

B’midbar (Numbers) 14:21- 23 but truly, as I live all the earth shall be filled with the esteem of YHWH, 22 and none of these men who have seen My esteem and the signs which I did in Mitsrayim (Egypt) and in the wilderness and have tried Me now these ten times and have disobeyed My voice,

23 Shall see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor any of those who scorned Me see it.

Fortunately we now see because of the failure of Yisrael to continue to trust YHWH, that among the Yahudim (the Jews) a humble observance of “Counting the Omer” is strictly adhered to by all devout Yahudim (Jews) as an act of repentance, something that all believers should take note of as it constitutes a daily journey of repentance and removal of leaven that we know surrounds us and that can so easily find root in us unless we purge it. This symbolizes the total rejecting of the World’s view of what life is which we know leads to slavery often seen as returning to Mitsrayim (Egypt):

Yochanan (John) 8:34 Yahshua answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

This counting of the Omer therefore must be highly significant as we read in Scripture:

Slide 14

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 23:15- 17 And from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, you shall count for yourselves: seven completed Sabbaths. 16 ‘Until the morrow after the seventh Sabbath you count fifty days, then you shall bring a new grain offering to YHWH.

17‘Bring from your dwellings for a wave offering two loaves of bread, of two-tenths of an ĕphah of fine flour they are, baked with leaven, first-fruits to YHWH.

This Scripture however is where we have a discrepancy with Judaism in “the 1st Fruits & the Counting of the Omer” which begins according to Judaism two days after Passover but this does not coincide with the reading above. This counting would also contradict the 1st Fruits offering that we know Yahshua was as he is “the First Fruits of the Dead.”

Slide 15

Accordingly in the above scripture the 1st Fruits are brought on the morrow after the Shabbat and the count begins from the eve of 1st Fruits noting that Eve is before the day. Therefore based on that we are in a rare agreement with the Karaites which results in 1st Fruits & Shavuot (Pentecost) always falling on the morrow after the Shabbat.

The Spiritual Journey of the Sh’liychiym (Apostles):

Slide 16

Just as Yisrael was on a journey to Sinai so too were the Disciples. Their Journey began with the appearances of Yahshua Ha Machiach (the Messiah) on the Day of 1st Fruits & continued for the next 40 days after which he ascended into the Shamayim (Heavens):

1 Corinthians 15: 3-8 For I Shaul delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Machiach (Messiah) died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Kepha (Peter), then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7 After that He was seen by Ya’acov (James), then by all the Sh’liychiym (Apostles).

In this journey of understanding we find that rather than what we would expect happened. Though the revelation of the Risen Saviour had been given them, the Sh’liychiym (Apostles) did not go out and preach the message of the death & Resurrection of the Machiach (The Messiah) but rather spent the next 50 days therefore the days of “Counting the Omer” in deep study of the Tanak (Old Testament) & in fellowship and much supplication that they might remove all the Leaven of the Pharisees being the false doctrines and especially hypocrisy from their lives. If they were ever going to be the bearers of this great message they needed the hand of the Almighty resting on them and they needed to be clean vessels:

Slide 17

2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honour and some for dishonour. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

The days referred to as “Counting the Omer” therefore are days of preparation, of Sanctification, of purging all vestiges of Leaven that the servant of the Master is able to receive the implanted word of Truth & be fully useful to the Master. The Sh’liychiym (Apostles) needed this time of preparation even though they had been with Yahshua throughout his whole ministry observing his teaching, seeing his Miracles and now seeing him risen but yet the journey was not complete until they arrived at Shavuot (Pentecost) after which their ministry would begin.

Even at the end of 40 Days after Yahshua had presented himself to many of his growing Talmidim (Disciples) when Yahshua was about to ascend to his Father he instructed them to wait in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) for the promise from the Father.

We see the same preparation in the life of Shaul (Paul) even though he was a Pharisee, educated in the School of Hillel under the most renowned teacher Gamali’el being the leader of the Council of Pharisees & the son of Elder Hillel yet Shaul (Paul) restrained himself from beginning his Ministry until he was adequately prepared as we read:

Slide 18

Galatians 1:11- 17 But I Shaul certify to you, brethren, that the Besorah (the Good News) which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Yahshua Ha Machiach (The Messiah).

13 For I advanced in the belief of the Yahudim (Judaism) beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, how that beyond measure I persecuted the congregation of YHWH being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

15 But when it pleased Elohim, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His favour, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Goyim (Gentiles), I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.

18 Then after three years I went up to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) to see Kepha (Peter) and remained with him fifteen days.

The key to understanding the need for preparation, sanctification & purging of the Leaven before launching into ministry is that of being overwhelmed. Think of Mosheh who for 40 years was trained in the ways of Mitsrayim (Egypt) thinking by his ability he could free Yisrael from Slavery. He then needed to spend 40 more years of humility in the Wilderness caring for sheep to the point of knowing he was totally incapable until by the calling and empowerment of YHWH he was able to trust and obey the voice of YHWH and see his people set free.

The Process of Experiencing the Journey from Pesach (Passover) to Shavuot through the days of “Counting the Omer” therefore is a much needed journey that finally leads to spiritual awakening & power, being the result of Sanctification and much intimacy through prayer with YHWH. I hope that through a greater awareness and understanding of this Journey that we can better appreciate the mechanisms that have been Divinely put in place for our benefit.

Slide 19

Summary of Discussion Points:

  1. The plagues of Mitsrayim (Egypt) were meant to discredit the false Elohim of the Mitsrites (Egyptians) and to demonstrate that YHWH is above all & that he makes a distinction between Mitsrayim & Yisrael.

  2. The Passover’s blood gave protection & the eating of the flesh of the Lamb brought strength & health to the Yisraelites. Therefore Yahshua raises this point by saying that all must eat his flesh & drink his blood to obtain life but this is especially speaking of Spiritual life.

  3. After being delivered the people of Yisrael needed to walk in faith and trust for all their needs, a lesson we desperately need to learn as well. Therefore each one of us is also on that journey and it does not stop at Deliverance.

  4. The Feast of Unleavened Bread (Chag HaMatzot) is an object lesson to remind us to deal with sin in our life since Leaven raises bread through a process of death & corruption therefore equating to sin.

  5. The Rising of Yahshua became the New Leaven of Heaven that would affect every person who put his faith in the Master.

  6. The Journey from Mitsrayim (Egypt) to Sinai or for us today to Shavuot (Pentecost) is wonderfully portrayed through what is known as “Sefirat HaOmer” or counting the Sheaves which relates more to a spiritual journey of preparation to receiving the Torah implanted in our hearts at Sinai/ Shavuot (Pentecost) through a countdown of daily reflection over personal refinement in our life.

Messiah the Passover Lamb

Introduction: As we approach the time of Pesach or Passover it is with joy that we consider how amazingly Yahshua fulfilled every aspect of this great celebration that the Yahudim (the Jews) have Celebrated for about 1500 years without understanding that it found it completion in the sacrificial death of the Lamb of Elohim that takes away the sin of the World.

Slide 2

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 23:1-2 And HWHY spoke to Mosheh, saying, 2 Speak to the sons of Yisrael and say to them, the Moedim (the appointed times) of YHWH which you shall proclaim to be set-apart (holy) convocations; these are my Feasts.

Slide 3

The word Convocation in Hebrew is “Miqra” and can mean a gathering or a rehearsal:

We could therefore say that Yisrael had been doing a Dress Rehearsal of the Passover after the fact, though in reality they were doing it as a Dress Rehearsal of what would happen when the Machiach (the Messiah) would appear and they still rehearse it today as they always have done.

Since YHWH has always demonstrated the importance of his Moedim or appointed times we will endeavour to see how Yahshua fulfils these appointed times in remarkable detail.

Slide 4

Passover or Easter

Since the passover has been so overshadowed by tradition and due to a desire by the early Roman Ecclesia (congregation) under Emperor Constantine to reject all things Hebraic we find that without exception most people today rather use the term Easter so it is important for all of us to fully understand the Pagan roots of this word or celebration. Rather than do a teaching on this I have attached a link that will demonstrate the horrific character of this Pagan celebration that we can better deal with this issue when it crops up.

Passion for truth YouTube 5 minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN-nRm5PNsU

To further establish that we should not be speaking the names of other Elohim (gods) such as Easter we have the following verse:

Shemoth (Exodus) 23:13 “Pay close attention to all my instructions. You must not call on the name of any other gods. Do not even speak their names.

As people of faith what are we going to do! YAHshua is the Passover lamb so as for me I will call this Feast the Passover the Pesach even if it flies in the face of tradition as long as it does not fly in the face of my Heavenly Father or my Redeemer Yahshua the Messiah.

Yahshua perfectly revealed

Through the Tanak (Old Testament) we find many portraits of Yahshua but none is greater than that found in the story of the Passover. The Children of Yisrael had been strangers & slaves in Mitsrayim its ancient name meaning troubled water (Egypt) for about 400 years:

Slide 5

Bereshith (Genesis) 15:13 Then YHWH said to Abram: “know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs and will serve them and they will afflict them 400 years.

Yisrael under the burden of affliction then cried out to Elohim for delivery so he sent Mosheh (Moses) who tells them at the last plague to place the blood of an unblemished lamb on the door frame of their houses that the Malak/ Messenger (Angel) of death may passover which then would begin their delivery from slavery:

Slide 6

Shemoth (Exodus) 13:3 On the 10th of this Month every Man shall take for himself a lamb for a Household.

Shemoth (Exodus) 13:6-7 Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. 7 And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.

My desire in this discussion is to demonstrate how beautifully Yahshua fulfilled the role of the Lamb as well as see the parallels he displayed through the Temple service remembering that the Yahudim (Jews) rehearsed and celebrated each year the Moedim (the Feasts) with rigorous exactness in remembrance of the day of their Deliverance in the case of Pesach (Passover) so we will look to some key readings found in the Nazarene Scriptures that subtly reveal many aspects of Yahshua fulfilling every prescribed part of these feasts:

Slide 7

Yochanan (John) 12:1 Accordingly Yahshua, six days before the Passover, came to Bĕyth Anyah (Bethany), where El‛azar (Lazarus) was, who had died, whom He raised from the dead.

We so often browse this Scripture without consideration of what it reveals. Since it was six days before Passover it was therefore the 8th of Aviv or Nissan (Modern Calendar) in the 1st month on the Yahudim (Jewish) Religious calendar & the next day is the 9th when all the lambs were brought to the Temple through the northern gate from Beyth Lechem (Bethlehem) where they had been held until the 9th of Aviv (Nissan).

Josephus records that the Population of Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) was about 600,000 but during Passover it would swell to about 2.5 Million people so in one day they would slaughter 250,000 lambs in the Temple so you can imagine the picture of bloodshed & animals crying but this was meant to increase the people’s awareness of how terrible sin was as they saw perfectly innocent lambs being slaughtered before their eyes for their sins. This was also to show how serious sin was before a Righteous Qadosh Elohim (a Holy God).

Also the yearly Yahudi (Jewish) tradition was that when the Lambs arrived from Beyth Lechem (Bethlehem) the people at the northern gate would be singing Tehillim (Psalms) 113 through 118 including this Psalm:

Slide 8

Tehillim (Psalms) 118:24 This is the day Adonai (the Lord) has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity.
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!  [Baruch haba ba Shem Adonai]

What upset the Pharisaic leaders so much was that as the Lambs entered the northern gate, Yahshua entered the eastern gate which if we remember was the gate that the Machiach (Messiah) was to enter and the people were singing the same words to him that traditionally they would sing when the Lambs entered the Northern gate. How significant is that. These Children as Yahshua calls the untrained common people had such a revelation that they sang the Tehillim (Psalms) to him that were meant for the Lambs only, but we know that he was indeed the true Lamb of YAH that came to take away the sins of the World.

Also as we read before:

Shemoth (Exodus) 12:3 On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.

Therefore from the 10th of Aviv the Lambs would be taken into the home but in Yahshua’s day the Lambs were brought to the Temple to be inspected until the 14th day to check for any spots or blemishes since only a perfect Lamb could be offered as a sacrifice to YHWH according to the Torah.

Exactly from the 10th of Aviv (Nissan) Yahshua was found in the Temple precinct where there was a library of scrolls and where Rabbis or teachers would gather to teach their disciples.  During this time Yahshua was inspected or questioned by the Herodians who were Priests or Sadducees joined to King Herod by marriage therefore loyal to Rome. Then he was tested by the Sadducees the official Priests in the Temple who ruled the Sanhedrin & who did not believe in the Physical resurrection & finally by the Pharisees who were sticklers for Law but made thousands of additions calling it oral law revealed today in the Talmud so they simply wanted to find fault with Yahshua in matters of the Torah (Law). Just like the Lambs that were examined from the 10th of Aviv (Nissan) Yahshua was being examined by the Religious leaders according to:

Slide 9

MattithYahu (Matthew) 22:15-39

Finally however on the morn that the Lambs would be considered acceptable fulfilling the prescribed examination of the Lambs for Passover Yahshua was brought before Pilate the final authority and this is what he says:

Yochanan (John) Pilate then went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.”

Through this process we see Yahshua fulfilling every prescribed aspect that the Lamb would go through before being sacrificed something that had the Divine hand guiding every step that we may know and be able to show others that he fulfils all aspects of Torah with regards the sacrificial Lamb of YHWH that all these lambs were meant to represent & pointed towards.

The Most Definite sign of the Messiah:

The most powerful sign that Yahshua gives for his Messiahship however is found when the Scribes and Pharisees ask for a sign from him and he answers them like this:

Slide 10

MattithYAHU (Matthew) 12:39-40 But Yahshua answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Yonah (Jonah). 40 For as Yonah (Jonah) was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The most straight forward understanding of this verse is simply that Yahshua is prophesying that like Yonah (Jonah) he would be in the Earth for three days and three nights but this totally contradicts the traditions of a Friday to Sunday morning belief between the Crucifixion and the Resurrection as this does not constitute the three days and three nights but as had it, tradition trumps the clearly revealed truth found in Scripture.

Michael Rood in the preface of his book “The Chronological Gospels” suggests the each of the feasts of YHWH being reckoned according to the Creator’s Solar/ Lunar Calendar can now be accurately reverse calculated and synchronised with the Julian Calendar instituted more than 42 years before the birth of Yahshua. Today Science through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as well as the Israeli New Moon Society among other reputed experts in Science & Torah has enabled the calculations of the Creator’s Calendar to be made with great accuracy. We are now able to calculate the day that Chanukah began in the year that Yahshua healed the man that was born blind and in that year Chanukah was on a Shabbat or Saturday December 6, 27 CE as he entered the Temple mount that morning.

Even without Scientific evidence we can know from the verses quoted that the 14th of Aviv or Nissan was a Wednesday and the next day a High Shabbat (Sabbath) being the 1st day of the Feast of Matzah (Unleavened bread). Taking the verse above we can then see that the end of three days and three nights was the end of the weekly Shabbat (Sabbath).

Slide 11

k.JPG

Also it can be clearly shown that the women who came to the Tomb early the 1st day of the week would have been unable to purchase the burial spices on Pesach as shops only opened half a day leaving room for preparation for the Pesach and would have rested on the 15th day of Nissan being a high Shabbat. Only the following day they would have gone to buy the spices which would then need some time to prepare the Burial Spices and also prepared for the Shabbat but they then rested again for the weekly Shabbat and finally went to the Tomb at dawn on the 1st Day of the Week (S_nday).

There is however far more to the story of Yonah (Jonah) that has escaped most believers because the sign of Yonah goes much deeper. Surely this reference would not have escaped the Pharisees and the students of the Tanakh (Old Testament). Many today profess to believe that Yonah (Jonah) was kept alive in the belly of the fish but I am here to dispel that idea. He in fact died and was preserved in the belly of the fish so he would not be eaten by other predators like sharks.

To repeat it: “Jonah was thrown off the boat & drowned, was swallowed by a big fish most likely a whale, remained in his stomach for 3 days & 3 nights then the large fish became sick and went up to the shore & vomited him up and YHWH resurrected him from the dead after three days but we need to read the Scriptures to see this most powerful revelation that Yahshua alludes to as the sign of his Messiahship:

Slide 12

Yonah (Jonah) 2:1 And Yonah (Jonah) prayed to YHWH his Elohim from the stomach of the fish. 2 And he said, “I called to YHWH because of my distress and He answered me. From the stomach of Sheol (the grave- the place of the dead) I cried and You heard my voice. 3“For You threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas and the floods surrounded me. All Your breakers and Your waves passed over me. 4 “So I said, ‘I have been driven away from Your eyes. Would I ever look again toward Your set-apart Temple?’5 “Waters encompassed me, even unto my soul, the deep closed around me, weeds were wrapped around my head. 6“I went down to the base of the mountains, the earth with its bars (the gates of Sheol) were behind me forever. But You brought up my life from the pit (Grave/ Sheol), O YHWH, my Elohim.

Just imagine how the Religious leaders reacted when the Talmidim (Disciples) began preaching that Yahshua had died as the perfect sacrifice for sin & that YHWH had resurrected him fulfilling the sign that Yahshua said would be the sign that he was the Machiach (Messiah).

Yahshua’s Purpose Driven Life:

Yahshua had no misgiving about the Divine Purpose for which he was sent into the World when he stood before Pilate and answers him:

Slide 13

Yochanan (John) 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Yahshua answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

He also understood that he was to be the fulfilment of the true Passover for which he had come into the World:

Slide 14

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Since Yahshua was fully aware of his Purpose and even looked to it with great expectation we see him revealing his passion on the eve before Pesach (Passover):

Slide 15

Luke 22:15 Then Yahshua said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;

This verse reveals the desire Yahshua had to fulfil what the Father had given him to do but this meal has also been misunderstood since it was the night before the Passover meal would be eaten the last night that leavened bread could be consumed and this meal could be considered as the Passover rehearsal or preparation meal.

Slide 16

We find however in the Mishna that the Galileans (Yahshua and his disciples were Galileans) adopted a tradition that in Hebrew is called, seudah maphsehket; this translates essentially to “last supper”. The Galilean Yahudim (Jews) had established this additional celebration that the Yahudim (Jews) of the Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) area did not observe. This “last supper” was about remembering that it was indeed not ALL Hebrews who were in danger from death at YHWH’s hand in Mitsrayim (Egypt), but ONLY the firstborn sons. So a special night-time meal was adopted whereby this meal would be eaten and then there would be a 24 hour fast that followed……thus the name “last supper”. The next meal to be eaten was the Passover meal.

To further explain that this was not the actual Passover meal we read:

Slide 17

Yochanan (John) 13:1-3 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Yahshua knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.2 And supper being ended,

We know Yochanan (John) is talking about the same “last super” but telling us it was before the Feast of the Passover. This rehearsal was also occurring in the Temple foreshadowing what was about to take place when the Lamb of Yahweh would be the substitution for the sins of the Nation of Yisrael and the whole World.

The perfect timing of YHWH:

Slide 18

In Mark 15:25 we read “It was the third hour that they Crucified him.” This is extremely significant as this was also the time of the morning sacrifice. The moment the Priests were binding the Passover Lamb to the Altar the Romans were binding Yahshua to the Tree. Yahshua again was fulfilling the dress rehearsal they practiced every year.

We also see that the ninth hour in the Temple was the time of prayer & the evening Sacrifice:

Yochanan (John) 19:30 So when Yahshua had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished!” and bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.

This was the ninth hour the time of the evening sacrifice, the time the Passover lamb was slain:

Fulfilment of all the Feasts:

We have seen how Yahshua fulfilled the Pesach & by his sacrifice he bore our sin therefore fulfilled the feast of unleavened bread by taking our sin but there is also a clear revelation that he fulfilled the feast of First fruits as well:

In the Temple service it is found that on the Feast of Unleavened bread at the end of the Weekly Shabbat the Cohen Ha Gadol (the High priest) would go into seclusion awaiting the 1st day of the week in which he would present at dawn the first fruits of the Barley harvest being a sheave as a wave offering or thank you offering to YHWH before the Most Qadosh Place (Holy of Holies) in the Temple (Mikdash).

Slide 19

Therefore it is totally conceivable that Yahshua rose at the end of the Weekly Shabbat upon completion of his work and having rested but remained in total seclusion waiting the exact moment that he could present himself as the First Fruit offering:

To validate the thought that Yahshua in fact fulfilled the first fruit presentation before his Father in the Heavenly Temple we have two verses that give credence to this thought:

Yochanan (John) 20:17 Yahshua said to her, touch me not for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your Father and my El and your El.

Just like the Kohen Ha Gadol (the High Priest) Yahshua is showing that he needs to be without human contact therefore completing Temple purity Laws so he can present himself before YHWH as the First Fruit offering.

Slide 20

MatithYahu (Matthew) 28:9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Yahshua met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

Looking at these verses something seems to have happened and I would suggest that Yahshua had fulfilled the First Fruits offering where he presented himself in the Heavenly Temple as the thank you offering or the wave offering that the Kohen Ha Gadol (the High Priest) was doing exactly at that time in the Earthly Temple. This presentation of Yahshua also carried with it the promise not of an abundant Barley harvest but of an abundant harvest of souls according to the words of Sha’ul (Paul):

1 Corinthians 15:23 But each one in his own order: Messiah the firstfruits, afterward those who are Messiah’s at His coming.

Conclusion of Yahshua the Lamb:

As we look to every detail of the Moedim (appointed times) I hope we can remember how Yahshua fulfilled in every detail according to the points I have desired to highlight:

  1. That a Miqra or convocation can mean a gathering for a Rehearsal that foreshadowed the Machiach (Messiah) as the Lamb sent from YHWH to bring fulfilment to this Feast.

  2. That Passover reminds us that the blood of the innocent Lamb saved the lives of the Yisraelites and all who took refuge in their homes from the Malakim (Angel) of death and then brought Deliverance from the Slavery of Mitsrayim (Egypt) but more importantly that Yahshua as the true Passover Lamb also brought atonement for our sin that we could once again enter into the renewal of the Covenant.

  3. Just like the Lambs were examined by the Cohen (Priests) in the Temple from the 10th of Aviv (Nissan) so too was Yahshua examined and found without fault.

  4. Yahshua fulfilled perfectly the sign he predicted by the 3 Days & 3 Nights in the Earth but also by resurrecting from the dead as Yonah (Jonah) did.

  5. Yahshua had a purpose driven life that he knew would have its climax with Pesach (Passover):

MatithYahu (Matthew) 26:2 “You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”

  1. Yahshua fulfils all the Feasts with the most intricate detail that all may know that he is the promised Machiach (Messiah) the Saviour of Yisrael & that all who embrace him as their master may partake of the promised atonement of sin receiving adoption into the House of Yisrael & enter into the Renewed Covenant of YHWH by the sacrificial blood of his Son with the promise of Eternal Life.
